Understanding Love

Is it one of the benefits of marriage?

Love is famously the foundation stone of a marriage relationship. Yet what does it actually mean? It's certainly a word that is well used today and yet it seems that we can quite easily fall in and out of love. When looking for the benefits of marriage, surely one major one has to be that love is constant. It might be easier to see that with recent marriages. We are all looking for a relationship where love is dependable and consistent, not just here today and gone tomorrow. Easier said than done?

The stress and strain of life can all too easily allow us to forget about love and just start taking it all for granted. We no longer bother with the loving gesture, touch, remark or gift. Can you remember what you initially loved about your partner? Surely it can't just be an emotion, for our emotions go up and down too easily- which could mean that love gets lost on the downward spiral! No- love has to be a decision, a commitment, felt yes- but sometimes when we don't feel it so well, we might need to make an effort to find it and give it out. Unless we get into the habit of giving our love, our well will run dry. When was the last time you gave someone your love? Do we have to wait for Valentine's Day or could we get into the habit of giving everyday, even with just a loving smile of appreciation. Don't let your love go cold! It needs stoking up like a fire, but when you do- it will burn bright and warm everyone around! A touch of marriage care!

A Definition Of Love

Love is a flower which turns into fruit at marriage.

~Finnish Proverb

Marriage Bible

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easliy angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hope, always perseveres. Love never fails."

(I Corinthians 13v4-7)

Why Was Marriage Created?

Right at the beginning, when God created Adam, he decided that he shouldn't be alone and created the woman Eve from the man's rib. Thus began the first ever union of man and woman.
