A Love a Lot Lesson Plan
Fun Activities For Kids On The Emotion Of Love
Welcome to a lesson plan with Love-A-Lot Bear-
The Care Bear who loves to take care of others and make them feel appreciated and is very sweet and soft-spoken.
In this free lesson plan we will be looking at how to show you love through song, story, crafts and games. In some ways love comes quite naturally to children, but at the same time they need to be reminded to be active in giving out their love so that they grow and become a better person themselves because of it.They also need to learn what it really is, in a world that is so confusing and the word itself is often misused and misunderstood. In our language we use the same word to describe many different aspects of love, whereas in many other languages they use different words, for example in the original Greek of the Bible.
We also think about who loves us and how reliable and consistent love is. Hopefully by reinforcing the truth that they are loved, they will be stronger and more confident to face a world in the knowledge of who they are, even when others might not always be of the same mind.
Searching for true love - That is consistent and reliable
Where Can You Find The Purest Form Of Love?
Introducing Love A Lot Bear -
Pass the bear (or any bear you will use for the session) to each child in turn as they share their news
Encourage the children to share how they have felt loved this week or indeed, been able to show their love to someone else, just as Love A Lot Bear loves to do.
Where Love Comes From
S e q u e n c i n g a love quote
Write out the verse below and get the children to repeat it together. Talk about where love comes from and whether they could imagine a world without love (God). Once they have repeated it several times, you could cut up the words and get them to sequence them in the right order, so that it can be read again correctly.
Let us love each other, for love comes from God. He who loves is a child of God and he knows God.
— 1John 4v7, The BibleSinging Songs About Love
Kids love singing and it's a great way to help them to remember things!
Sing this verse to the tune of "Polly put the kettle on", with the following text:
Dear friends let us love each other (x3)
For love is from God
He who loves is a child of God (x3)
And he knows God.
Sing, God's love is very wonderful with all the actions.
God's love is very wonderful (x3)
Oh wonderful love.
So high you can't get over it, so low you can't get over it
So wide you can't get round it,
Oh wonderful love.
You could offer them a selection of percussion instruments to join in the band!
A Story About Love
The Good Samaritan
This very touching story brings out the meaning of selfless love in a way that the children can understand. When we told the story of The Good Samaritan with our group, we acted it out, with each child playing a different role. They loved it so much that we had to repeat it several times!
If you are not sure of this timeless story, you can read from the Bible the story of the Good Samaritan or watch it below, and discover why Jesus said what he did!
The Good Samaritan
Do this and you will live.
— Luke 10v25-37Give each child a large heart cut-out, old magazines and catalogues, scissors and coloured pens/pencils
Arts & Crafts Ideas About Love
Where Love Comes From
On one side of their heart they could write the verse they looked at earlier, "Where Love Comes From" and on the other they stick on pictures from the magazines that depict love for them. Suggest they give their picture to someone they know who needs loving.
