"The Land Of The Morning Calm"

Welcome to this South Korea Guide to a beautiful country that was named 'Chaohsien' meaning morning freshness in 1934 by an emperor of the Ming dynasty of China, the Celestial Empire of the East. The name reflected it's stunning scenery and picturesque tranquility of high mountains and clear lakes particuarly at the beginning of the day, and so South Korea became known as The Land Of The Morning Calm.

It was to this country that my son travelled in order to take up a teaching post in a primary school on the outskirts of the capital city, Seoul. He arrived to many new sights and sounds that were quite different to his native England. In the two years since he has been there he has made many new friends and discovered some amazing sights.

One day I hope to visit him in his new country, meet his new friends and experience for myself The Land Of The Morning Calm.

Until then, let me take you on a short journey- a South Korea guide to sample some of these amazing sights and sounds for yourself and who knows, maybe you too will have the privelege of visiting this beautiful country.

First Impressions Of A New Country - At the beginning my son was living on the outskirts of Seoul in the Cheolsan neighbourhood

This would be my dream holiday for two reasons:

1. Because I would love to experience this kind of culture that is so different to my own and

2. Because I would be able to visit my son.
