Wedding Bells At Westminster Abbey

On 29th April 2011 the royal wedding took place between William and Kate at Westminster Abbey in London. The couple met at St Andrews University in 2001. 1900 guests were invited to what was the biggest royal event since the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana in 1981. The previous November the couple announced their engagement, ending an eight year courtship.

The wedding was a bank holiday in Britain to mark the occasion.

There was much excitement at this royal wedding and it was certainly a positive, happy boost for a country that has had plenty to feel down about!

After the wedding, the couple lived in North Wales where Prince William continued to serve in the Royal Air Force.

The Kate Middleton Ring - Would you wear a Royal Ring Fit For A Princess?

The couple became engaged in October 2010 after a private holiday in Kenya. Apparently 28 year old Prince William had been carrying the 18 carat sapphire and diamond ring that had belonged to his mother, who died in 1997, around with him for three days before he finally presented it to Kate. It was no doubt an emotional thing for Prince William to do. They posed for photos at St James Palace with Kate displaying the ring that Princess Diana had chosen for her engagement. Although the ring had been given to Prince Harry after their mother's death and Prince William had received her watch, Harry gave the ring to his brother from one future queen of England to another. Prince William said that it was his way of ensuring that his mother could be a part of the occasion.
